About the Learning Disabilities Association of Alberta
History
The Learning Disabilities Association of Alberta (LDAA) was first incorporated in 1968 and obtained charitable status in 1980. Its initial purpose was to help community groups called chapters or community groups become more effective in advocating to the provincial government, and in particular, the Department of Education (now Alberta Education).
Currently there are chapters in Edmonton, Calgary and Red Deer. Each chapter provides direct community programming to the LD community and those working with it.
The LDAA is part of a nation-wide network of LD Associations comprising of the Learning Disabilities Association of Canada (LDAC)
Our Mission
To support people with learning disabilities achieve their full potential.
Who We Are
We are a not-for-profit charitable association of parents and professionals linked to a network of Chapters in Calgary, Red Deer, and Edmonton.
What We Believe
Every person is unique and this must be respected and reflected in public policy.
Unwrapping the gifts of people with learning disabilities unlocks their full potential.
People with learning disabilities are a vast untapped human resource.
Early intervention and appropriate accommodation matter to everyone. The consequence of LD not mattering is community wide and impacts resources in employment, mental health, justice, health, and other human services. The loss of human potential is immeasurable.
